I’m Barbara Rooney, a qualified, independent, civil celebrant based in Bedford, Bedfordshire.
Having previously taught English and Drama for 19 years, I have a passion for reading and words. I will use my wide experience of language and my empathy to help you to choose the right words, in the right order, that are right for you for your ceremony.
End of Life Ceremonies
When a loved one’s life has come to an end, people choose to say goodbye in different ways:

In a funeral service - either a burial, or a cremation

In a memorial service - once the burial or cremation has taken place

By scattering or interring (burying) the ashes at a time, following the cremation, where family and/or friends gather together, for a short ceremony

Whatever your choice of service, I will support you in capturing the very essence and heart of the person who has died. I will help and guide you to choose the right words, music, and tributes to create an individual and personal ceremony that honours and celebrates that person and offers comfort to those who knew and loved them.

As a Couples Celebrant, I will work with you to create a bespoke ceremony that reflects your personal story as a couple. Together, we will craft a unique and meaningful ceremony that celebrates your love and commitment in one of the following ceremonies:

Celebrating your commitment and affirming your love, without any legalities
Family Ceremonies
Many families now choose to hold unique, non-religious ceremonies to mark significant changes in their family circumstances:

Birth of a new baby – welcoming them and announcing their name to family and friends

Formal naming of an older child, who may not have had a christening, or welcoming ceremony as a baby

Welcoming an adopted child(ren) to the family

Welcoming a stepchild or stepchildren into the family, and celebrating a new, blended family
