FAQs End of Life Ceremonies

What is a Funeral Celebrant?

A Funeral Celebrant is someone who is qualified to host and officiate funeral services. As well as conducting the funeral service itself (non-religious and semi -religious), celebrants are involved in planning the content and structure of the service - including the music – often writing the eulogy, and creating a unique and meaningful service for the person who has died.
What are the benefits of having a celebrant-led funeral service?

One of the main benefits of having a celebrant-led funeral is their ability to be open and inclusive, allowing you to create a ceremony that is a unique and true reflection of the person who has died.
It also gives you the flexibility to factor in different beliefs and wishes, without being tied to a specific format.
How do I pay for a Funeral Celebrant?

This fee will usually be included as part of the costs you pay to the Funeral Director.
What should be considered for the content of the service?

As part of my visit with you, I will ask some key questions to gather information, stories, and memories about your loved one. Some areas you may wish to think about before we meet include:
-
Where the deceased was born and grew up
-
Siblings and family members they grew up with
-
School days and childhood stories
-
Partners, children, grandchildren, and other family members
-
Closest friends
-
Armed forces/National Service
-
Career and places of work
-
Groups and societies they belonged to
-
Interests and achievements
-
Favourite memories
-
Musical tastes
-
Significant events
-
Sayings and stories
-
What will you remember them most for?
-
Did the deceased make any personal requests for their own funeral?
-
Will anybody else be speaking at, or participating in the service?
-
What 5 words best describe your loved one?
You should also think about songs, music, poems, readings, hymns, or prayers that you might like to include in the service, although I can help you with this if needed.
Who should speak at the funeral?

This is entirely your choice. Some people leave the bulk of the speaking to the Funeral Celebrant, whereas others choose to have family members and/or friends speaking, who may share a reading, poem, or prayer.
This will all be discussed when we meet, and I will support you in whatever choices you make.
Do I need to have an Order of Service?

Naturally there is an order to the day, however it is completely up to you should you wish to create a printed Order of Service for the ceremony.
Your Funeral Director will normally help you in organising an Order of Service if you choose to have one.
Can I have a service/ceremony without having to go a crematorium?

Yes, I can hold a service or celebration of life wherever you wish it to be held.
